A Christmas Dinner

Sharing a quick Christmas time tablescape tonight.

Red, white and black were the main colors in this tablescape for our get together here.

I always try to add a little something to the chairs.

 Pfaltzgraff and Pioneer Woman plates are layered over a square, woven place mat in a perfect berry red.

Christmas holly napkins are placed in each glass and in the basket of bread.

A snip of rosemary adds a simple touch of green to the flatware service.

It was just dark enough to appreciate the Christmas candlescape.

I shared the centerpiece that I made by painting a vintage punch bowl filled with epsom salts for snow.

A blown glass dinner bell covers a battery operated tea light.

It looks awesome lit!

Ahh! Christmas time is my favorite time of year...I just wish that all of our family could be here!

Christmas Window in our Window

I've fallen quite a bit behind in my posts for the Holiday season. The unexpected trip back home and having my daughter here from NY were priorities. 

Now, I can get on with sharing the decor that I actually started on Nov. 1st!

Our bay window all decked out for Christmas in the kitchen.

 I love creating a window in a window display as I have done for seasons before.

Our little personalized stockings, that I made last year, accent the eight paned display.

They hung from our mantel for Christmas  last year.

 

The bay window's ledge is doubling as a sideboard for plates, flatware and napkins.

I added the grain sack stripes to the napkins for our Christmas tablescape last year, too.

 These plates were a score, last summer, from the Salvation Army. They're vintage plates by 
Everyday Gibson.
I'll be using them for our tablescape for "just two" for our Christmas dinner and I'll be sharing it after we enjoy our very special time together.

I brought our outside lantern in.

A fluffy white owl is displayed on a vintage wooden hanger that I shared in an earlier post.

 I love this penguin sitting in my Pfaltzgraff bowl.
 
T. Bear, my beloved, antique, german teddy is driving a Christmas delivery truck.

 I think it's worth another look...

 or maybe two.

A Sunday Dinner Tablescape for Fall with Friends

A few weeks back we invited friends over for a Sunday dinner. It turned out to be an old fashioned, Italian feast!

  

I love an opportunity to set a pretty table....did you know?

So, the night before, I came up with this. Red, white and green with accents of black.

A mix of white ironstone and Pfaltzgraff dishes set for a gathering of six.

Tiny, white, pumpkins with initials painted on faux leaves for place tags were added where each person would sit... then given to take home as little fall gifts.

I managed to "fallify" our bay window, too!

I always like to add a li'l something to the chandy with a seasonal do...Christmas and Valentine's day are past favorites of mine. If you have time you could do a holiday chandelier search!

The following day I decided to give the pumpkin a bit of a lift. I did it by using an ironstone compote, turned upside down, with one of the luncheon plates as a colorful accent underneath.

I think that it made it a bit more impressive!

My Checkerboard Stool was NOT an Easy Project!

Last summer I bought two, bright red, stools at a consignment shop for $5 ea....good deal!

I planned on painting them to sell in my space. Well, it didn't take long before I scapped them up, from the garage, to try them at the counter in our kitchen.

Guess what? They were a perfect fit!!! 

I'd been longing to add some black and white checkerboard to our kitchen ever since we were in our old house. 

My plan was to create a checkerboard floor cloth, but with our move other priorities came first.

So, for now, I decided to paint the pattern on the stools.

 This was the way it started...well, actually, the way the 2nd one is still. I haven't found the time to tackle the task for a second time!
 

Now, I'm not gonna lie, or even sugar coat this project....it was a real pain in the "you know what"!

After sanding down the glossy, red paint I applied two coats of black paint to the legs and two more, in white, to the seat.

Then came a lot of measuring and taping to make the perfect squares.

Then I painted these squares black and attempted to remove the tape too soon!!! Ugh...don't do that! Wait...wait...wait!!!

Then remove the tape and re-tape to expose where you still need to paint more black squares that the tape covered in between!

And....then you need to tape and paint the pattern on the edge all the way around!

I am really happy with the way it finally turned out.

It's the perfect checkered "pop of pattern" for our country kitchen.

Now, here's a closer look at my breakfast vignette.
I found four matching place mats at a local consignment store for just $1!

Pfaltzgraff and ironstone created my breakfast setting

complete with souvenir salt and pepper shakers and "grandma's" rooster egg cup

with some ironstone and toleware, too.

This is my vintage, shaving mug... it's now my sugar server with the perfect holder for some stirrers.

This is my new coffee pot. It was a gift from my sweet friend, DeeAnn, from my trip home for Mother's Day.

It's an 1800's ironstone piece that I will forever treasure!
