My "Free" Crusty Chippy Old Chair

I think I lucked out today...I do, anyway!

So, I was out and about, today, looking for some vintage, wire, desk baskets. I want some for a new, primitive cupboard that I am working on. And, although I didn't find what I set out for, I did "score" with my Free, Crusty, Chippy, Old Chair!

Now, for sure, that wonderful (NOT) top layer of crusty, chippy, old paint is yucky, old, lead paint. And that's not good for indoor use or even sitting on... it's flaky finish just gets all over your clothes.

Chippy, crusty, peeling, flaky old chair.

But, it could still be used to display a beautiful plant on a farmhouse porch...which, sadly, I do not have!

See...it just doesn't fit right, here :(

It looks wonderful displaying my herbs!
I was thinking of taking the time to gently sand it off the wood frame and pick it off the woven seat. But, there is really not enough left of the original, green paint to make it worth the effort....don't you agree?

And so, that's how off to the shop it will go. A fair price is next to determine...what would you say it should be priced at?

Gotta get started on my cupboard project, then I'll be back with it's unveiling in my next post!

Til then...

A Rustic " Shabby Glam " Washstand

I found this red, old and crusty washstand a few months ago and had an idea to make it really unique!

I wanted to leave it in it's natural state with it's primitive, chippy, old, red paint.
But, I was dying to add a little something different...something out of the norm for furniture and still rustic, but with a little bit of "Shabby Glam!"

A few photos of  when I first got it.

Now, are you ready?
Do you want to see it?
Are you really ready?
Am I teasing you?
I had to wait a really long time for the knobs to arrive.
Oh, boy....I sure hope you like it!

DRUM ROLL......
Ta-da-da-da-da-da!!!!!

I'm old and broken and distressed...that's why I'm wearing my
"Sunday Best"

Some french script papers with deep red roses...twisted, burlap ruffles to keep it rustic and those
glamorous,  rhinestone knobs, now, make it super special!

I lined the drawers...one with fabric and one with the paper and coated them with "mod podge" to make them easy to keep clean.

This is the "ready made" burlap that I used to sew the ruffles and twisted accents.

With my excitement to finish my new piece and never having made layered ruffles before I had to cheat, a wee bit, on the way they were done.
After hot glueing on my first row of ruffles, I realized that I needed a "base" to attach the next row to, duh!

I glued the second ruffle onto the "base." The top ruffle is mostly out of this shot :(
I creased the papers, prior to cutting, to get my exact size. Then used "mod podge" and applied several coats to the drawer and inside the bottom.

Oh, and a much needed tip for sewing on burlap or any other loose weave fabrics...
layer wax paper under your work to prevent the fabric from being "eaten"by your machine. It's a mess to get it un-jammed!!!

And if you thought I baked the beautiful, apple pie...I can't lie... I cheated! Had to pick up a store bought one, for times sake. Looks yummy though, right?

Well, gotta go off to my shop to create a listing...I have no place to put it :(
so, on the market it will go!

Til next time...stayed tuned for our "Pumpkin Family" DIY for my next post!

Love, Hugs & Kisses,
JP
